Impressions for Tenor Horn – Maarten Vermeersch – Wind Band

Impressions for Tenor Horn is a lyrical and warm solo work by Belgian composer Maarten Vermeersch. He wrote it especially for Tim De Maeseneer and it was recorded on his album The Birth of Time Echoes. In this work for tenor horn and brass band, harmony or brass band The typical warm sound of the tenor horn is central. A timbre that Tim De Maeseneer knows how to let speak in a unique way.

The composition is built from flowing, melodic lines that alternate in color and atmosphere. Vermeersch starts from personal impressions and memories of Tim’s characteristic sound and translates them into a musical portrait full of emotion and refinement. The result is a poetic work in which the soloist can fully unfold his expressiveness and phrasing. Although it remains technically feasible(grade 4 for the soloist and grade 3 for the orchestra) , the piece demands musical insight and a sense of nuance.

With a duration of 4 minutes and 36 secondsImpressions for Tenor Horn by Maarten Vermeersch is ideally suited as a concert work, competition solo or examination piece. The orchestration is transparent and warm. As a result, the tenor horn always retains a natural place within the ensemble. The work is available in versions for brass band, concert band and fanfarewith in addition an optional solo part for F horn.

What makes Impressions for Tenor Horn special is the way Vermeersch manages to combine simplicity and depth. The music sounds accessible and natural, but is full of subtle details in harmony and dynamics. This creates a sound world that is at once intimate and compelling. The work invites the listener to become still, breathe with the soloist and be carried away by the warm glow of the tenor horn.

With this composition, Maarten Vermeersch confirms his reputation as a composer with an eye for melody, balance and depth. Impressions for Tenor Horn is a valuable addition to the modern tenor horn repertoire. It is also highly recommended for any brass player looking for an expressive solo work.
