Lode Violet

Lode Violet (Besson Artist & Alliance Artist) was born in Jette in 1995. He began learning the cornet at the GO! Academy for Music & Word in Willebroek at the age of six and took up the piano a year later. At fourteen, he followed his teacher and father, Frans Violet, to the Kunsthumaniora Brussels, where he graduated with highest distinction. In 2017, he obtained a Master of Arts in Music, specialising in cornet, at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, studying with Frans Violet. He completed his specialist music teacher training two years later.

His teaching appointments include brass and ensemble playing at the GO! Academy for Music & Word in Willebroek, and brass and brass band at the Kunsthumaniora Brussels, where he began teaching in 2019. In September 2020, he joined the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp as principal-study teacher of saxhorn.

As a cornet player, Lode performs with a variety of ensembles and regularly appears as a soloist. He has been a guest performer with bands across Europe and in the United States. He became Principal Cornet of Brassband Willebroek in 2011, winning numerous national and international titles with the band.

Lode began composing at nineteen. He wrote the concert opener Sång till Norden for Brassband Willebroek’s gala performance at the 2015 Swedish Brass Band Championships. The work has since featured in successful competition programmes.

He began conducting in 2017. Under his direction, Young Brassband Willebroek won Belgian titles in the third and second divisions and first place in the first division at the Flemish Open Brass Band Championships. He also won the second division of the Dutch Open Brass Band Championships with Mercator Brassband. In 2020, he became conductor of Brassband St.-Cecilia Leest.
