Red Celebration – Roger Derongé – Fanfare
Red Celebration was written by Roger Derongé , on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Royal Fanfare Saint Rochus Eizer . They asked him to write a work consisting of three parts. These parts flow into each other making the composition sound like one big whole, “through-composed” as it is called. This makes this work extremely suitable as part of your concert repertoire.
In Eizer (borough of Overijse) there are two musical societies, popularly called “De Rooi” and “De Blauw.”
The title Red Celebration refers to “The Rooi” of Eizer.
Since this is a solemn occasion, the composition starts with a majestic intro.
After this introduction, we get a lively, rhythmic theme interspersed with melodic phrases.
In the second movement, we hear a lyrical melody in which the trumpet plays the leading role.
Musicians are expected to play this movement in large broad phrases, with balanced nuances.
The third movement is an upbeat, simple melody with the intention of being easy to listen to.
Finally, the theme from the first movement comes together with the melody from the third movement.
Red Celebration ends with a big and powerful final chord, worthy of a sprightly, 150-year-old harmony.
Red Celebration is a festive concert work for concert band , composed by the Belgian composer Roger Derongé and published by Principal Edition . The work combines energy, melodic warmth and symphonic grandeur, making it an excellent fit within anniversary concerts or festivals.
The composition is available as a digital score (PDF) , written out in full for brass band, and ideal for orchestras looking for a modern, positive and audience-friendly work with Belgian roots.
